Participants will learn how to handle the boat in tight spaces and maneuver close to piers, docks and fixed objects with confidence. This class includes important skills used in docking maneuvers including how to back down a narrow channel in a straight line, turning the boat around in tight spaces, the principles of boat control and managing momentum, and more. For newcomers and those who want to polish their skills under the guidance of a professional captain.
Whether you're dropping the hook in a deserted cove for a quiet lunch or pulling into a crowded anchorage for the week, solid anchoring skills will increase your confidence and help assure the safety of your boat (and those around you!) Participants in this session will learn a number of key skills including how to select the best spot, managing a dragging anchor, techniques for rafting up with other vessels and much more. Designed for skippers and crew of all experience levels.
Helmsmanship—the ability to steer and handle a boat well in varying conditions can’t be learned from a book or in a classroom. In this session, you’ll take the helm to learn skills needed to be a confident boat operator including: how to use trim tabs and the engine tilt/trim feature to maximize fuel efficiency and balance the boat correctly, handling large waves and wakes safely, rules of the road and more. For skippers and crew of all experience levels.
If you’ve ever felt anxious or intimidated in challenging docking situations, this program is just what the doctor ordered. Taught by experts in the art of close quarters maneuvering, this session will show you "How to make your boat do EXACTLY what you want it to do". This 3-hour workshop is designed for experienced boat operators regardless of boat size or propulsion type.... the techniques and principles are universal and can be adapted to any boat. We can’t guarantee you’ll never be intimidated again but even the most experienced skippers will learn new skills that will measurably improve both confidence and ability.
This 3-hour workshop covers the skills every boater needs to handle a boat confidently and safely in good conditions. Fundamental boat control techniques, managing wakes and waves, rules of the road, aids to navigation, anchoring and more are taught entirely onboard while underway by a USCG licensed and certified professional instructor. Participants will gain practical hands-on experience to maximize enjoyment of their time on the water. This workshop is ideal for newcomers who want to improve their skills and confidence under the guidance of a professional captain and crew members who want to take a more active role in boat operations.
